The Space Key is made of carbon composite materials that Lamborghini as part of a research project in the year 2019 sent to the International Space Station. The carbon fiber was created into a distinctive artwork when it returned to Earth. The physical element includes an NFT serial code that links to the digital artwork through a QR code on the rear.

NFTs for those who aren't familiar are unique identifiers which are stored on a distributed ledger of the blockchain and connected to a digital asset such as a photograph or video, song or other recording. This allows owners to ensure authenticity, scarcity, and trackability of tokens via the internet.

Lamborghini takes this unique approach to art to a new level by collaborating with NFT PRO - a white label NFT solution for businesses. Over the next few weeks Lamborghini will release details about this exciting project, including the name of the unknown artist, as well as the timeline for the auction.

The physical component of the Space Key. Space Key

Following a string of social media posts teasing some kind of space-themed item, Italian supercar maker Lamborghini has entered the world of non-fungible tokens (NFT) with a unique project dubbed Space Key. The NFT was created in collaboration with an unknown artist and will be auctioned off in a few short weeks. Its core is made of advanced carbon fibre composite material, which was shipped to the International Space Station in 2019 as part a research project. Carbon fiber was 3D printed for the base of every Space Key. Each Space Key is linked to an exclusive, digital artwork by way of an QR code. Five Space Keys have been produced.

NFTs are unique identifications that can be recorded in distributed ledgers, like the Blockchain, and connected to digital assets like images. They're all the rage among those with more money than So it was only a matter time before an automaker decided to cash in on the trend.

Space Key consists of five units. The components were built using a physical piece of carbon fiber composite that was shipped to the ISS in the year 2019. Each NFT is linked to an exclusive digital artwork created by the same artist using QR codes on the backside of the carbon fiber element. More details will be revealed in the coming weeks and days, including the artist's name who created the digital art work and how to buy one of the five Space Keys.

The digital artwork

After weeks of social-media posts hinting at it, the luxury car maker Lamborghini finally announced its first initiative for non-fungible tokens (NFT). The project is dubbed the Space Key, it consists of five physical items that unlock a unique digital art work NFT by a yet-to-be-identified artist. The  collectors' piece was created in collaboration with NFTPRO(tm) and is limited to five units. It will be auctioned off soon.

Each Space Key contains a block composed of a carbon-fire composite material, which was sent to the International Space Station as part of a 2019 research program. After returning to Earth, it was engraved with a QR code that links it to the digital component of the Space Key.

Each of the five Space Keys will feature a separate moment that occurs seconds apart as the Lamborghini Ultimae lifts off toward the stars. Each of five images was shot by photographer Fabian Oefner and contains over 600 million pixels.

Oefner used a balloon with a camera to capture each of the individual images, which were later merged into the final image. The result is a photograph that is completely out of the world. It captures the beauty of Earth and the futuristic, hyperrealistic view of a car rising from the Earth. The Space Keys will be auctioned off soon, but the exact date and time of the auction haven't yet been revealed yet.
